FASHION THAT FEELS GOOD INSIDE AND OUT
Our Planet-Conscious Approach
We believe in fashion that's kind to the Earth and empowering to its people. At Wild & Pree, we are dedicated to a zero-waste ethos and producing plastic-free clothing, ensuring every piece we create respects our planet. Our mission is to offer you an eco-friendly choice, and be part of a movement towards a more sustainable future.
Our approach
The fashion industry contributes significantly to global waste. At Wild & Pree, we're tackling this issue through a three pronged approach:
Plastic & Polyester-Free Clothes: We aim to stop contributing to the long-term environmental impact from non-biodegrable plastic on Earth, by eliminating plastic-forms our in clothing such as polyester, elastane & spandex.
Reducing Textile Waste: We aim to prevent dumping of textile waste into landfills, by eliminating textile waste using our Zero-Waste efforts, such as embracing make-to-order slow fashion, and upcycling unused scrap fabric.
Educating our Community: We are dedicated to not just creating sustainable fashion but also educating our community on eco-friendly practices.
POLYESTER AND PLASTIC IN CLOTHING
Understanding the Issue
Q: What’s the issue with polyester in clothing?
A: Polyester is non-biodegradable, meaning it doesn't break down easily in the environment. It can take up to 200 years to decompose, leading to long-term pollution and harm to wildlife and ecosystems.
Q: What about the impact on our oceans?
A: Every time a polyester garment is washed, it sheds microplastics that eventually make their way into our oceans, posing a threat to marine life and entering the food chain.
Q: What about Elastane & Spandex?
A: Spandex and elastane are also forms of plastic. They also contribute to environmental issues, such as microplastic pollution, especially when garments containing these materials are washed and tiny fibers are released into the water. Also, recycling garments containing blends of spandex or elastane with other fibers can be challenging due to the difficulty in separating the materials.
Q: Is plastic-free clothing better for my skin?
A: Absolutely! Polyester can trap moisture and heat, leading to skin irritation and discomfort. Polyester-free fabrics are often more breathable and gentle on the skin, making them a healthier choice for you.
Q: How does choosing polyester-free products make a difference?
A: By choosing polyester-free products, you're reducing demand for petroleum-based fabrics, minimizing your ecological footprint, and supporting sustainable practices in the fashion industry.
Q: Can polyester-free clothing be stylish and durable?
A: Yes! Polyester-free doesn't mean compromising on style or durability. Natural and alternative fabrics offer great versatility, comfort, and longevity, all while being eco-friendly.
Biodegradability
More than 60% of clothing worldwide contain polyester. At Wild & Pree, we are committed to using natural, biodegradable materials, to ensure that our clothing decomposes into the earth easily, and is not only gentle on the planet but also supports a cleaner, healthier ecosystem for future generations. Did you know fabrics like cotton and rayon/viscose take only weeks to decompose fully, in contrast to polyester-blend fabrics that can take upto 200 years to decompose?
Planet Based Fabrics
We prioritize plant-based fabrics over polyester blends, to further prevent the release of harmful microplastics into our environment. Microplastics pose a significant environmental threat, contaminating water sources, disrupting ecosystems, and entering food chains, ultimately impacting human health and wildlife.
Made to Order Slow Fashion
In an industry where overproduction leads to more than 30% of clothing never being sold and eventually dumped into landfills, Wild & Pree's make-to-order model fosters slow fashion and reduced wastage. By creating garments only when an order is placed, we significantly reduce overproduction and waste. This mindful production process not only aligns with our sustainable values but also allows us to craft each piece with a focus on quality and longevity.
Upcycling Production Waste
We transform production waste into treasures by upcycling fabric scraps into charming scrunchies and adorable pet bandanas. We are also actively exploring ways to repurpose post-production waste from customer-returns into fashion accessories such as earrings and stationery. This creative reuse not only reduces waste but also adds unique, eco-friendly accessories to our collection, reinforcing our commitment to a circular fashion economy.
Educating our community
Awareness Efforts
We proudly conduct the "No Polyester Challenge," an initiative designed to raise awareness about the environmental impacts of synthetic fabrics. Through this challenge, we encourage individuals to explore and embrace alternatives to polyester, fostering a deeper understanding and commitment to sustainable living, one wardrobe choice at a time.
